    Cause
    • Setting Permissions, Policies, and Security takes a long time on some operating systems
    • Installing the program in C:\Program Files instead of C:\Program Files (x86) on a 64 bit computer
    • Regional & Language setting in Windows is set to anything other than English (United States)
    • Problems writing to the Windows registry keys
    • Failed Pervasive install
    • Install finishes but install windows does not close
    • Installing data path directly to the Program Files or Program Files (x86) directory
    • Not enough hard drive space on the C drive
    • The file cacls.exe running in processes
    Resolution

    Section I: Step 3 of 3 Setup Security

    1. Cacls.exe running in processes.
    2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys to open Task Manager.
    3. Select Processes tab or Details tab (depending of the version of Windows).
    4. Highlight cacls.exe. (May also be listed as Control ACLs Program).
    5. Click End task.
    6. Verify the installation proceed to finish, if not continue to Section II.

    Section II: Microsoft Windows Small Business Server Editions, Windows 7, Windows 8, Server 2008 R2, Server 2011, Server 2012

    • Setting Permissions, Policies, and Security are handled differently on some operating systems.
    • Step 3 of 3: Configuring Your Computer portion of the installation can run for an extended period of time. Allow the installation to proceed without interruption. It will complete successfully, although this can take several hours.

    Note: Before assuming this is the cause, see other sections below.

    Section III: Install program to C:\Program Files (x86) on a 64 bit computer

    Note:

    • On 64-bit computers, C:\Program Files is where 64-bit programs reside. Sage 50—U.S. Edition is a 32-bit program and cannot be installed to that directory.
    • On Windows Server operating systems, installing the program path to drives or partitions other than C has been known to cause issues. Clear out enough space (roughly 1.GB) to install the program path to C:\Program Files (x86). This seems to be an issue only with the program path, not the data path. The data can be stored fine on other drives or partitions.
    1. If you are trying to install to C:\Program Files on a 64-bit machine, Cancel the installation.
    2. Start the installation again, installing the Program Files to C:\Program Files(x86)\Sage\Peachtree.
    3. Verify installation completes with no errors.

    Section IV: Region and Language settings improperly set

    1. Verify you can now progress through the installation.

    Section V: Problem writing to the Windows registry

    1. Cancel installation.
    2. Run Microsoft Easy Fix Utility (formerly, Microsoft Fix It Utility) by following link in Additional information.
    3. Select Run Now.
    4. Select Accept Microsoft License Agreement.
    5. Select Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply.
    6. Select Installing.
    7. Select Sage 50, and then click Next.
    8. Select Yes to wanting to uninstall this program.
    9. Reinstall Sage.

    Section VI: Failed Pervasive install

    1. Uninstall Pervasive;.
    2. Install Pervasive.

    Section VII: Smart Posting Service not installed

    1. Leave Installation Wizard running on Step 3 of 3.
    2. Open the Services menu via Control PanelAdministrative Tools or a Run prompt (Windows+ R keys), and then type services.msc.
    3. Verify Sage 50 SmartPosting for the version you are installing is not present.
    4. Disable User Account Control (UAC) and then restart the computer, .
    5. Run a repair of the installation, refer to Article ID 10602: “How to run Repair” in Related resources.
    6. Verify the Sage 50 SmartPosting service is listed and the installation completes successfully.

    Note: If the SmartPosting service is still not listed or the repair does not complete, create the Smart Posting service manually, and then run the repair again.

    Section VIII: Registry Permissions

    Note: It is strongly recommended to make a backup of your Registry before making any changes.

    1. Press Windows+R keys to open the Run window.
    2. Type regedit in the Open Field.
    3. Select OK.
    4. In the Registry Editor window, right-click HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
    5. Select Permissions.
    6. Select Security tab.
    7. Verify Groups or usernames include Everyone, Administrators and System.
    8. Verify each Groups or usernames have Full Control selected.
    9. Select Advanced button.
    10. Select Owner tab.
    11. Under Change owner to box, highlight the user that is currently logged into Windows that also has administrative privileges.
    12. Select Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.
    13. Select Apply button.
    14. Select OK button on Advanced Security Settings for Components window.
    15. Select Advanced button to show the Advanced Security Settings for Components window.
    16. Select Owner tab.
    17. Under Change owner to section, highlight Administrators group.
    18. Select Replace owner on subcontainers and objects box.
    19. Select Apply button.
    20. Repeat these steps on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE directory
    21. Close all Registry Editor windows
    22. Re-run the installation
