    Resolution

    Section I: New Computer

    1. Make a backup of each company;”How to make a backup” in Related resources

    Note: If the number of companies available makes backing up each individually time prohibitive,”How do I manually transfer company data from a recovered or backed up data location?” in Related resources.

    1. Install Sage 50 on the new computer;”Installation Instructions” in the Related resources section
    2. Move the backups into a shared folder or onto removable media (USB drive, CD, flash drive) so they can be accessed at the new computer
    3. On the new computer, open Sage 50
    4. Restore each backup, and choose option to Create a new company using the restored data; “How to restore backup” in the Related resources section

    Note: If you have any custom forms, select the option to restore custom forms along with data.

    1. If using Sage 50 on a network and changing servers:
      1. Share the data folder from the new server; “Which folders need to be shared and what level of access do users need?” in the Related resources section
      2. At each workstation, disconnect the original Sage 50 data network drive
      3. At each workstation, map a network drive to the new Sage 50 data location using the same drive letter as the original network drive; “How to map a network drive” in the Related resources section
    2. Verify that Sage 50 can be successfully opened, and the data accessed, at all computers

    Section II: Moving from server to workstation

    1. Close all instances of the software running
    2. On the workstation you wish to make the new host, create a new local data path. “Using the Sage 50 Database Repair Utility” located in Related resources
    3. To move companies to the new datapath follow “How do I move my company data folder?” located in Related resources

    Section III: Upgrading Windows

    1. Before installing the new version of Windows, open Sage 50
    2. Make a backup of each company; “How to make a backup” in the Related resources
    3. Move the backup files onto removable media (USB drive, external hard drive, CD/DVD)
    4. If Sage 50 was installed from a download, copy the installation folder onto the removable media

    Note: The default location for the installation files is C:\Sage\Sage50_201[version].  Copy this entire folder.

    1. After installing the Windows upgrade, reinstall Sage 50;”Installation instructions” in the Related resources section
    2. Open Sage 50
    3. Restore each backup, choosing the option to Create a new company using the restored data;”How do I restore a backup” in the Related resources section
