    • Error: “Sage 50 update could not be completed and needs to be run again.”
    • Service Release (SR) will not install
    • Error: “File [file name] wasn’t able to be copied.”
    • Installing a Service Release update displays error
    • Restarting the computer and running the update again results in the same message, effectively putting the install in a loop, SR loop
    • Unable to open program after failed install of update
    • Update failed
    • Service release will not install and prompts to restart the computer
    • PTXA[Release] keeps looping asking to reboot

    Cause
    • Some files were not properly updated during the upgrade from a prior version
    • This error can also be caused by having multiple instances of peachw.exe running in processes
    • Damaged sector of the hard drive
    • The executable file needs to be Run as administrator
    • Server data path is different than the localdatapath
    • Old version of STATUS.DAT
    • Peachw.exe is still running as a process even though the program is closed
    • Program is not recognized by the operating system as being installed
    • Antivirus is preventing installation of service release
    • Peachupd.exe is running as a process
    • UAC (User Account Control)
    Resolution

    Note:

    • If you are attempting to install any of the Sage 50—U.S. Edition service releases listed in the Description section above and receive this message, .
    • If install fails during Step 3 of 3, Backing up Existing Files, .

    Section I: Verify the DATAPATH equals the LOCALDATAPATH on the server

    1. Check the data path on the server;.
    2. Verify the DATAPATH location equals the LOCALDATAPATH.
    3. If they do not match exactly, then you will have to uninstall and reinstall to a different program path and data path.

    Section II: Reboot the Computer

    1. Reboot the computer.
    2. Run the update when prompted after the computer is restarted.

    Section III: Run as administrator

    1. Select Do not restart.
    2. Browse to the Updates folder in your data path.
    3. Right-click executable file, and then select Run as administrator or Run as.
    4. Verify the update now installs.

    Section IV: Check Task Manager to see if PeachtreePrefetcher.exePeachtreeBusinesslogic.exe, PTXA[Release].exe, or peachw.exe is running in processes

    Note: If the PTXA[Release].exe file is running multiple times, the update will not run. When following the steps below remove all instances of the PTXA executable except for one of them to successfully complete installation. For all other processes listed above, they should not show in the task manager at all.

    1. Right-click Task Bar, and then select Start Task Manager or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys.
    2. Select Processes tab (or Details tab, if on Windows 8, 8.1 or 10).
    3. Select PeachtreePrefetcher.exePeachtreeBusinesslogic.exe, Peachupd.exe, PTXA[Release].exe, PeachtreeBackup.exe or Peachw.exe, and then select End Process or End Task.
    4. Verify service release update can be installed.

    Section V: Old version or missing STATUS.DAT

    1. Browse to the data path,.
    2. If the STATUS.DAT file has a date older than one year or a future invalid date (example: 7/21/2072), right-click file, and then select Rename.
    3. Rename file to STATUS.OLD.
    4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 if STATUS.PTL is present.
    5. Browse to the Attachments section below and download STATUS.zip.
    6. Double-click STATUS.zip file, and then select Extract All; extract the file to data path.
    7. Verify service release update can be installed.

    Note: You may have workstations that are looping and asking for a reboot. Check the local data path and replace the STATUS.DAT if you see that has an date older than a year.

    Section VI: Reboot in Selective Startup

    Section VII: Download a new copy of the Service Release

    1. Browse to your data path.
    2. Double-click Updates folder.
    3. Right-click latest Service Release update file for your version, and then select Delete.
    4. Download a new copy of the update,.
    5. Double-click downloaded file to start the Service Release installation.
    6. If this does not resolve the issue, proceed to the next section.

    Section VIII: Check the PeachWLog.XML file for cause of failure

    1. Browse to C:\Windows.
    2. Open PeachWLog.XML file with Notepad.
      Note: If you cannot find Notepad, browse to C:\Windows\System32\Notepad\. Then select File, Open and browse to and select the PeachWLog.XML file.
    3. Select EditFind.
    4. Search for fail
    5. When the fail line is found, make note of the file or folder that is causing the failure. Also note the directory of the file or folder. For example: if the fail line states C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company\status.dat, the directory is C:\Sage\Peachtree\Company\ and the file causing the problem is status.dat
    6. Browse to the directory listed in step 5.
    7. Rename of file or folder listed in step 5.
    8. Check the Attachments at the bottom of this article. If the file or folder you renamed in step 5 is listed, you can download a replacement and place the file in the same location. The attachments are in Zipped folders and need to be extracted first.
    9. If the file you need to replace is not attached, delete all program path files ONLY, and run Repair on the Sage 50 program. .
    10. Install Service Release update.

    1. Use the Database Repair Utility to create a new data path,.
    2. Verify the Service Release installs.

    Section XI: Extract service release executable file

    1. Download and install WinRAR, refer to the link in Additional information section.
    2. Right-click service release executable file.
    3. Select Extract to [file name].
    4. Open the extracted folder.
    5. Right-click service release executable file.
    6. Select Extract to [file name].
    7. Open the extracted folder.
    8. Run setup.exe.
    9. If you get any errors, boot into Safe mode with networking,.
    10. Run setup.exe.

    Section XII: Uninstall and Reinstall

    1. Download Sage, the new download will have the latest service release applied.
    2. Completely remove Sage, .
      Note: If you cannot uninstall the program because you get a message that says it was not found, but you also cannot reinstall the program because you get a message that it is already installed, .
    3. Reinstall Sage.

    Section XIII: Disable Antivirus

    1. Follow your antivirus recommendations for temporarily disabling real-time scanning.
    2. Verify Sage updates successfully.
