    Resolution

    Method I:

    1. Open the Control PanelAdministrative Tools, then Services.
    2. Right-click the Sage 50 Database Connection Manager (for Sage 50 2013 or higher) / Sage Simply Accounting Database Connection Manager (for Sage Simply Accounting 2012 or prior), then select Properties.
    3. Select the Log On tab.
    4. Enter in the name of the user account and password that you use to log into Windows
    5. Select Apply

Note: If there is no password on your account, add one using the User Accounts section of the Control Panel.

    6. Select the General tab.
    7. Select Start to restart the service
    8. Close the Services settings.

Note I: If you are on a Vista Business computer, select “automatic (delayed start)” as the startup type. If the above procedure generates a 1069 error then return to the account information and click Browse. Check the name you are entering into the account field. If there is still an error after selecting the correct name, then either this account does not have full administrative rights to the computer, or the service is not set to run locally.

Note II: If there is still an error to start connection manager, revert back to local system account. It might work and start the service with no errors.

Note III: To change the service to run locally, follow the instructions below. Please note that altering the registry can have undesirable results if not done properly. You may want to consult a local technician for assistance.

    Method II:

    1. Select Start, then Run.
    2. Type regedit (regedt32 for some versions Windows), then select OK.
    3. Select File, then Export.
    4. Select All in the Export Range.
    5. Type a name and location for the backup, then select Save.
    6. Locate the registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Simply Accounting Database Connection Manager.
    7. In the right pane, double-click ObjectName.
    8. In the Edit String dialog box that appears, type LocalSystem in the IN VALUE Data Field, then select OK.
    9. Close the Registry Editor.
    10. Open the Windows Control Panel, then Administrative Tools
    11.   Select Services.
    12. Right-click Sage 50 Database Connection Manager (for Sage 50 2013 or higher) / Sage Simply Accounting Database Connection Manager (for Sage Simply Accounting 2012 or prior) , then select Start.

    Method III:

    1. Open the Control PanelAdministrative Tools, then Services.
    2. Scroll down to the DHCP Client.
    3. Right-click and select Stop.
    4. Scroll down to the Sage 50 Database Connection Manager (for Sage 50 2013 or higher) / Sage Simply Accounting Database Connection Manager (for Sage Simply Accounting 2012 or prior).
    5. Right-click and select Start.
    6. Scroll up to the DHCP Client.
    7. Right-click and select Start.
    8. Try opening Sage 50 again.

Note: You may need to restart the computer for some services to restart properly. For further information on this topic see Microsoft TechNet KB 314357 .

    Method IV:

    1. Unplug Ethernet cable from computer
    2. Start connection manager from control panel-admin tools-services
    3. If it starts, plug Ethernet cable back in.

    Method V: Disable UAC

    1. Verify that you no longer receive the message.

    Method VI:

    1. Open the Control Panel
    2. Click on User Accounts
    3. Create a new User Account with full administrator rights.
    4. Switch users and see if you can start the services from that user account

Note: If this can be done from another user account, then there is something malfunctioning with your original user account.

    Method VI:

    1. Open the Control Panel.
    2. Select System and Security, Windows Update, then Check for updates.
    3. Install all pending updates and restart the computer.
    4. Repeat Steps 1-3 until there are no more updates to install.

    Method VII:

If the error still persists, please refer to this KB 839174 for latest version of Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
