NOTE:  If the constant prompt is to run an update, before attempting these steps, hit Yes on the message that states “There is an update available and ready to be installed.  Would you like to install the update?”  Make sure the update the program is trying to install is not the update that was previously installed.  If the update is different, you can either delete the update from the Updates folder if it isn’t needed, or run the update and verify it no longer prompts for update.  If so, continue with the steps below:

    Section I: Run as Administrator

    1. Right-click the Sage 50—U.S. Edition icon
    2. Select Run as Administrator
    3. Activate online
    4. Close the program
    5. Open the program and confirm that it opens without prompting to activate

Section II: Two programs (i.e. 2013 and 2014) using the same data path

Note: If there is only one version of Sage 50 installed on the machine storing the Sage 50 data then proceed immediately to Section II.

    1. Close Sage 50
    2. Open Computer or My Computer and browse to your data path; see Answer ID 10165 How to find data path and program path, located below in Related Resources for help finding the data path
    3. Create a new folder, then name it Find Me.
    4. Browse to the other data path to locate the Find Me folder.
    5. If you see the Find Me folder then
    6. If you are not able to locate the find me folder continue to section II.

Section III: Data path files not updated properly

    1. Close Sage 50
    2. Open Computer or My Computer and browse to your data path; see Answer ID 10165 How to find data path and program path, located below in Related Resources for help finding the data path
    3. Delete or rename the following files in the data path folder:
      • OPTIONS.DAT
      • OPTIONS.PTL
      • SERIAL.DAT
      • SERIAL.DAT.BAK
      • SERIAL.PTL
      • ENVSESS.DAT
      • ENVSESS.PTL
      • ENVUSER.DAT
      • ENVUSER.PTL
      • Entitlements.xml
      • SoftwareInstallations.xml
      • Clientinfo.xml
    4. Open Sage 50
    5. Select OK on the message “Cannot open OPTIONS.DAT”
    6. If the registration or activation prompt does not appear automatically, go to Help, Sage 50 Activation (called Sage 50 Activation, Licensing, and Subscription Options in release 2014.2 and later)
    7. Register or activate the program
    8. Select OK on the message saying “Thank you for registering”
    9. Close Sage 50
    10. Reopen Sage 50
    11. Verify it no longer prompts for registration/activation /update

Section III: Applying most current  update

The Status.dat file may not be updated correctly.   Refer to Related Resources:  “Error Sage 50 update could not be completed and needs to be run again.”
